Top Tips for a Winter Skincare Routine

By October 10, 2022No Comments

During the winter months, our skin can get dry, so we have created a guide with our top tips and suggestions for your winter skincare routine.

Winter is right round the corner! It’s time to enjoy getting cosy, wrapped up in blankets, watching Christmas films and drinking hot chocolate. However, as much as we love winter, our skin can really suffer. Below, we have listed some top tips to help you keep your skin healthy and glowing.

Find the perfect moisturiser for Winter

A great moisturiser is essential for all skin care routines. If you are looking for a body moisturiser, try to find something with coconut oil or shea butter. Both ingredients hydrate and nourish the skin.

Make sure to use the correct moisturiser for your skin type on your face and neck. Moisturisers act as a barrier by holding the moisture in and hydrating the skin’s outer layers. If you have oily skin, water-based moisturisers are best, but dry skin needs heavier, oil-based moisturisers to rehydrate the skin. During winter, even oily skin can become dry, so it’s important to make sure that your moisturiser reflects your skin’s needs.

Add hyaluronic acid to your skincare routine

Hyaluronic acid naturally occurs in the human body, and it revitalises and regenerates the skin. Hyaluronic acid is an amazing way to help skin retain hydration, without relying on heavy creams and moisturisers. We have a range of products with hyaluronic acid in, so make sure to check them out below.

Ceramide, like hyaluronic acid, naturally occurs in the skin, but we produce less as we get older. Ceramide moisturising creams are a great product to introduce to your skincare routine this winter. Ceramides reinforce the skin’s barrier, keep hydration in, and keep dirt, bacteria, and pollution out.

Layer up your skin care

Use multiple products to add an extra layer of protection. Moisturises, SPF, and face oils can be used together as part of a routine. For example, you can use a moisturiser with hyaluronic acid, then a facial oil all over the face.

Adding a cleansing oil to your winter skincare routine

Cleansing oils are oil-based cleansers that help to remove makeup, surface debris and excess oil from the skin. A hydrating cleansing oil is perfect for a winter skincare routine, as it will remove makeup without drying out the skin. You can also use face oils overnight to keep the skin hydrated. Try to look for face oils with rose hip, soybean, and jojoba as they have hydrating properties.

Add extra attention and care to your eye area

The skin around the eyes is thinner, so it’s important to protect it. There are limited oil glands in this area too, so serums and oils can soothe and protect the skin.

Wear Sun Cream/SPF

Yes, it’s still important to wear SPF in the winter months. Sun exposure can lead to pigmentation issues, wrinkles, loss of collagen, and skin cancer. Sun cream or SPF can even out skin tone, help to heal and lighten scars and hyperpigmentation. We recommend a minimum of SPF30.

Protect your lips

During winter, the chances of getting chapped lips can increase. Try to resist the temptation to lick your lips, as this can strip the moisture from your lips, making them even drier! Instead, invest in a good lip balm, that contains vitamin E, shea butter, or jojoba oil.

Use face mask products high in vitamin C

Face masks are a great way to moisturise the skin quickly. Products with high vitamin C will encourage the production of collagen and cell turnover.

Drink Water and stay hydrated

Increasing the amount of water you drink will not only keep you hydrated, but it will also hydrate your skin. Make sure to drink at least 2 litres of water a day. If water is too cold, you could try a class of hot water with lemon.
